Traffic Offender Programs

If you have committed a traffic offence, such as drink driving, participating in an approved traffic offender program may help you get your charges reduced, or in some cases help you avoid a criminal conviction altogether.

What is a traffic offender program?

Traffic offender programs, also known as traffic offender intervention programs, are intended to help traffic offenders develop a more positive attitude towards driving, and encourage them to be safer drivers.

Traffic offender programs are run by approved providers, and are available to offenders who have pleaded guilty to a traffic offence. Generally they run one day a week, for a six or eight-week period.

Your lawyer can advise you on whether a traffic offender program would be useful for you, and can apply on your behalf.

Completing a traffic offender program can help the magistrate look favourably on you in court, and can help you if you are applying for a section 10 dismissal or conditional release order – which means guilty but no disqualification or criminal record.
